Humans as Invasive Species

A future looks back at humans in 2026. Artifacts include three elements; the reliquaries, the industrial and the atmospheric. As tragedy, both environmental and interpersonal surrounds everything we know, is it time to ask, are humans the problem? Perhaps human dominion was wrong all along.

I hope that these works convey the phantasmagoria of being alive in this time. The exhibit is made up of three facets, a triptich sensory experience split up into three segments through the gallery.

There is a time-based video of a person sitting on metal stairs lighting match after match as the focus wavers in and out. Industry surrounds the stairwell, the figure lets the matches burn, over and over.

The visitor encounters four different scents created especially for this exhibit. Ominous and comforting fragrances "Grow Over Us", "The Poison Garden", "Alpine Aparatif" and "Refraction" drift throug the gallery. Scent is known to have a direct route to memory. The essence of conifers, smoke, and rain build an otherwworldly bridge to nature in haunted immersion.

Small framed photos on the walls present an idea of nature impacted by human hands. These venerated objects remind us what is holy, what is sacred. They give us a visceral reminder of what we cannot lose.
