Jen Donahue is a multidisciplinary artist and owner of Birdbone Tattoo in Oak Park, Illinois. Working across tattooing, painting, photography, sculpture, and music, her practice is rooted in ritual, folklore, and the quiet language of plants.

Currently studying botanical illustration at the Chicago Botanic Gardens, Donahue approaches flora not as decoration, but as symbol and spirit. Her work draws from ancient folklore, Victorian mourning aesthetics, and the unseen threads that bind humanity to the natural world. Stems become vessels. Blossoms become portals. Light fractures against shadow the way memory fractures against time.

Rendered in graphite and acrylic, the paintings like relics, soft sepia meditations where botanicals emerge from the body as if exorcised from within. She is obsessed with the symbology of plants: what they have meant across cultures, what they carry in myth, what they whisper about death, devotion, resilience, and return.

Her work floats in the space between decay and bloom, séance and stillness, an offering to the oneness that lives beneath skin, beneath soil, beneath shadow.
